Made in collaboration with California State lawyers and judges

What is Reunification Therapy?

Reunification therapy is a relatively new therapeutic intervention that has been gaining traction in family court; the goal is to reunite an estranged and/or alienated parent with their kid(s). Reunification therapy is a great resource because it facilitates therapeutic healing so that a new relationship between parent and child can emerge. I have worked with multiple judges and lawyers who have built careers working with families, and they all agree that it’s crucial for reunification therapy to be child-focused. The adults involved can and should work together as a team to prioritize the child(ren)’s well-being.

Child hugging father after completing Reunification Therapy Online by Amy Kelly, LMFTIn my experience reunification therapy is a controversial subject among professionals. Some judges or lawyers hear the words “parental alienation” and literally roll their eyes; some lawyers see the custodial parent as a manipulative martyr. This course will give you the education and tools you need to navigate potentially unhelpful court systems and effectively advocate for yourself. Ultimately, the focus should be on your child’s emotional well-being, which is a first step toward healing – reunification therapy will empower you to move forward effectively and build a loving new relationship with your child.

Why should you take this course? We go beyond the basics of reunification therapy, teaching you the ins and outs: what terminology to use, what to avoid, and how to work with professionals toward the ultimate goal of reuniting with your child and establishing a new co-parenting relationship. You will learn all about reunification therapy, a powerful tool which helps people better grasp and begin the process of reunification and healing, and you’ll get a sense of why it is so important to go through the program and the huge changes it can bring to families. The course will also provide comprehensive insight into the legal and ethical process and a deeper understanding of the psychological family dynamics at hand.

Course materials include 10 lessons and, at the end, a test. Upon passing the test you will receive a printable certificate of completion which can be used in court as evidence of your motivation and commitment towards reconnection and reconciliation.

Wonderful professional development training!
